Flying Mission

This post is coming a few months after this trip. I had the priviledge to go on a flying trip with Flying Mission the second week of December. Kent wonders is a friend of ACTION Zambia and also good friends with Flying Mission. He invited me to accompany him on a flying trip to visit a couple hospitals. Well if you know me you know that I love to fly, so It didn't tke me long to say yes! This is a pic of our pilot Bryan Wilson. Bryan is based in Botswana but will be moving his family up to Lusaka this July. We flew up to the Northwest province of Zambia to a little town of Mukinge. SIM has a hospital there that serves people for miles around. On the next post you can see the strip that we used to land there. We took a tour of the work that SIM is doing there and had lunch with some of the nurses. From there we flew to the small village of Chitokoloki. I took a photo as we passed by rain shower. This is the home of a CMML hospital. This mission station was started if I remember correctly about 1918. Gordon & Ruth Hanna were our hosts there. It was great as it is situated along the banks of the Zambezi river. The one photo shows the sand formations on the bottom of the river as we flew down river. I have pics of the beautiful sunset and also the barge that they use to get vehicles across the river. Yes, I even got to putt around on a Honda four wheeler like I had at home! This station also has its own diesel powered hammermill for grinding mealy meal. The other photo show the pickup tubes from the big water pump that pumps the clear river water up the hill to a big storage tank. Yes that is what they use for water. Of course they boil their drinking water. They run two big generators for 3 hours each evening for power and to charge all the batteries. Everything runs on 12 volt during the day when the power is not on. It was a nice getaway for me and to see what other organizations are doing in Zambia. Thanks Kent!
