Time at the hospital
Our little friend, Dorcas had a high fever Sun-Mon so she went to the hospital and was admitted. The hospital provides very little to the patient or family. Given, her mother, stayed with her over several days. We took food, clothes and supplies to her each day. Poor Given had to go that whole time without bathing because we didn't know each day whether or not Dorcas would be released, so we didn't know what to take to her. There aren't facilities for families to clean up in or even get a bite to eat. The parent or relative has to try to sleep in an uncomfortable chair. After a few days Given was shakey from going without sleep. I offered to stay and let her get some sleep but then Dorcas was released. The doctors and nurses do not tell the patient or family much information either which makes it hard to know what is going on.
Dorcas was in a room of three patients and the woman in the bed next to hers died. They took an hour to remove the body and it really scared Dorcas. Can you imagine? Dorcas is 7! They aren't protected from scary things, death or other things we protect our kids from experiencing. It is all a part of life. So be thankful for American hospitals!
