Independence Day

Monday, Oct. 24 was Zambian Independence Day. They are celebrating 41 years of freedom from colonialism. Flags and banners with Zambian colors flew all around the city. I'm sure there was a parade to the "Freedom Statue" but we didn't go. I asked one of our guards what people do on Independence Day, he simply said, "We go to church and thank God for our freedom." Whoa, I was expecting something casual like being with friends and eating. The Freedom Statue photo is on the cover of a street map book. The only Independence Day photo I got was Blake wearing his sporty Zambian hat!
