Ladies Ministry

Thursday afternoon, Noel, a new teammate, and I went to a ladies meeting at the church we usually attend. We have been looking for opportunities outside of Sunday morning to connect with the ladies of the church. The Kaunda Square Baptist ladies were having a talent day at their weekly meeting. We sang worship songs, prayed and listened to a time of bible teaching. The pastor's wife spoke from Proverbs 14:1 "The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down." She taught that next to God a woman's first priority is to her husband and children. She talked about how a wife should work to make her home a place her husband should long to come home to. Individually the women shared their talents so others could learn and grow. Thankfully most of the presentations were translated from Nyanja for us but some of the women can speak English. The whole afternoon was a mix of the two languages. Topics included how to do laundry well, keeping the home clean, singing, tailoring and lots of cooking. We tried new foods and learned how they prepare it. The women all joked and laughed. They had asked us to bring American food so they could taste it. I had to get up and explain how to make pizza and Noel presented making tacos. They looked at my pizza and told me my husband would never leave me! We learned a lot about what concerns Zambian women have and how they live. Noel and I had a great time of fun but learned many cultural lessons as well.
