Staff meeting, Feeding the children, shopping, cooking
I am writing this Tuesday morning as I was pretty tired last evening. Monday morning was our first staff meeting and a chance to hear about all the different ministries that ACTION is partnering with. One of those is the feeding program at Misis's compound. Heather had been missing her friends and family very much yesterday. I asked her how she would like to meet some children. Keith, Heather & Kelly with about five others went out and helped prepare a big pot of nshima, sauce & kidney beans for roughly about 2oo chidren. It was hard at first because Heather & Kelly were very shy and clung to Papa. It was exciting to see them warm up to the children and shake hands & ask them their names! Papa and the others served all 200 children in shifts, then we helped clean up and headed back to Camp Timothy so I could watch our children so Linda could go shopping.
Linda: LeAnne Burns, another missionary wife, took me grocery shopping. I was very glad to know that most things are available and that I can continue to cook similar dishes. I do want to learn more recipes and ways to cook but for now it is a relief. The store was nice and I especially enjoyed buying fresh baked wheat bread for .40 cents a loaf. I am so thankful that LeAnne could help me choose brands and help me with the money. My bill was very high, even in dollars, but around 2 million Kwacha! I'm also glad because I'm attempting to cook for/feed 11 people, including us. Behind the main house is the "guys flat" which houses single male missionaries, currently most are in their twenties. These five guys have been great with the kids and we have enjoyed conversation from McDonald's to theological issues.
Keith: Cooking in Zambia was very exciting this evening! We were making spagetti sauce opening the little cans of tomato pastes and whoosh! These little cans are under pressure! I had paste all in my hair and all over the kitchen! We tried different ways to open them, Linda even tried and she shot hers clear across the kithchen! It was a great moment to look at each other and laugh "welcome to Zambia"! We made a terrible mess. We called LeAnne and she laughed and told me that is normal. She didn't tell Linda that she needs to buy an extra can because one will end up all over! I will post a picture this evening.
Have a great day!

I just gotta see a picture. Maybe Keith could host a cooking show on TV??!!!
So glad to hear you made it to Zambia! Love the pictures. Wow, can I say again that you are all so brave to do this. The kids sound like such troopers. Give them all hugs and kisses from us, and know you are in my prayers.
