Our street kid team, Blake, John, Vasco, Robert, Kina, and Chalo, planned an all day Christmas event for street kids. Usually each Friday afternoon they play sports with the street kids, give them time to talk and build relationships, take a shower and have a meal. Last Friday, the day was planned for about 200+ kids to come and play sports, hear the Christmas message, dance to a live band singing Christian songs, be fed a hot meal, see a puppet show and receive gifts. The ACTION families went to help for the afternoon. The first photo shows Alek "helping" to sort gifts into bags to give to the kids. The bag included a new pair of flip-flops, a toothbrush and toothpaste, an apple and some candy. Next the cooks are preparing a HUGE pot of nshima. The families helped hand out the plates of food to the kids. One boy was wearing his only clothes - a pair of pajamas. He and a friend wanted me to take a 'snap' of them goofing around. Most of the crowd consisted of boys but I might guess there were 20 girls there as well. This sea of kids had a great day being loved. The street kid team will continue their Friday sports with the kids and also go on night time street walks to strengthen their friendships with these needy kids.
