Foods Zambians Eat

It was a warm day in Zambia, Africa. I was waching our house help, Auntie Dailes make nshima. Nshima is kind of like mashed potatoes only thiker and you eat it with your hands. Auntie Dailes was also making chicken and cabbage. We call the chicken and cabbage- relish. She uses a speshel pot, the nshima pot. I help her make the nshima into lumps that is my favorite part. By Heather Stranberg, 8 yrs. old - a school assignment to write a 6-8 sentence story on any topic
This gave me the idea to show you readers what Zambians eat. The staple food is Nshima (sheema) shown on a plate with relish. You eat with your hands using the Nshima to pick up the relish. The relishes may be beans, hard boiled eggs, fish, chicken, beef, meatballs, rape (a green leafy veg) okra, and more, but always nshima with it. The Nshima is made from Mealie Meal, a white maize (corn) meal, shown in big bag. The fish in the blue bag is bream and the tiny fish in the white bag is kapenta. Sorry but as personal preference we don't eat the latter. Kelly is seen wearing a head wrap and getting ready to eat a fritter. These are dough batter dropped in oil like a donut - yummy! We eat Zambian food for lunches 3-4 days a week cooked by our house help, Dailes.
