Election Time

It's presidential election time in Zambia. The president serves a six year term. The incumbant Levi Mwanawasa ran against men from 5-6 other parties. The photo shows election fever - our guard, Charles is wearing a homemade cardboard hat with a boat perched on top. The candidate Michael Sata had the boat as his symbol, meaning that they are crossing over to the other side for change. Voting began on 28 Sept. but results were delayed an unusually long time and results were only announced last night - 2 Oct. There were some minor riot type activities but overall things went smoothly. The current president, Mwanawasa, was reelected to lead Zambia. Pray that he and his staff will lead this country with integrity and peace. His inauguration took place 3 Oct. with a 21 gun salute and MIGS flying over. I happened to be at a friend's house very near Parliment and could hear some of this.
