Trainings during school holiday
The Steins led a two week long teacher training for 4 area church-based schools. Photos show 26 teachers learning how to more effectively teach Christian education with math and reading as secondary subjects. Although this was a tiring time for the Steins they felt that the teachers received it well and are now better prepared. The teachers even spent a couple days teaching each other and being reviewed so they could use the observations to improve their techniques. I watched the Stein's 4 kids a couple times and baked some goodies for the teacher's tea breaks.
Brenda spent this week working with a group of street children and former street children whom she has known previously. She taught and used a DVD to help them understand how their relationship with Christ relates to AIDS. Brenda helped them know more about the disease alongside their position in Christ. The children could see that Jesus will love them no matter what their status is and therefore they all need to learn to respect others. At the end of the week these 10 kids agreed to be tested and amazingly enough all were negative! Most have suffered years of abuse yet they had not contracted the HIV virus. They thanked God and sang His praises all the way home.
Tim and Andrea Hilty used this holiday break to host a big seminar. 96 people from churches they work with, participated in this seminar covering HIV/AIDS, the gospel and community health. Andrea's parents, missionaries in South Africa, led sessions on biblical counseling and other topics while they were visiting. I got the opportunity to watch Hilty's little daughter.
