Farm Families

If you ever wondered what a Zambian farm house looks likes, here you go, a simple concrete block house with pretty flowers around. One of the families manages a vegetable exportation business to the UK. They were the ones who donated the weekly vegetables for the school feeding program. Another farm family bought their farm and diversify to make their living. They raise sheep, chickens (eggs), soybeans, maize and other crops. The photo of the concrete pond is where the wells are for the irrigation system. Ask Keith for more details. The maize looked great and made us feel like we were in Illinois. The kids checked out the sheep they raise for meat. We greeted their polo ponies at rest. Many of the farmers can keep horses cheap so in the cold season they play polo. One of our friends shows Keith his new John Deere harvester. After a walk around the farm we all hosed our shoes - Heather fell in deep and was really muddy but I forgot to take her picture. Then we enjoyed tea and cake on the veranda. Many of these farmers are Christians and some home school - would you want to drive those roads for an hour to get to and from school?

That is a pretty big combine! Are most of the farmers white? Are they Zambian or UK, S African? Do they grow crops other than maize?
