Action packed day

Keith awoke in panic during the night and said we had a fire. I looked out the window and realized that our guard/gardener decided to burn brush behind our house, near our rooms. Relief and back to sleep.

We all piled in our new "vehicle" to take two short termers to a town 30 minutes from Lusaka to look for drums to buy. We enjoyed seeing the lay of the land, schools, a gravel quarry, grass-roofed huts and other things of interest. Along the road near this town were several drum, I guess you would call them dealers. We stopped at one with a good selection and the guys choose what they wanted. Now the story gets better...

We got behind a cattle truck and crawled along for quite a while. We finally got around him only to be waved over by a policeman standing by the side of the road. My dearest husband, who has NEVER had a traffic ticket, yes, it's true after all his truck driving miles, his record was spotless, got a speeding ticket for 5 kilometers over! That's only2 mph over the approx. 40 mph! Two weeks in Zambia and he gets a traffic violation. We had to drive a short way to the police station to pay his fine of K67,500, that's about $14. How crazy.

Keith took another team to Misisi School for the large lunch feeding again. He said it is so incredible. We have several nurses with AZ right now so they did general evaluation and first aid, including stitching up a boy's knee using the back of the van to work in. Even small needs like cuts can get very bad because they don't have simple things like antiseptic and band-aids. The need is so vast.

Heather went with another missionary to an orphanage, where we have a connection with a girl her age named Rabecca. Because of lack of space many of the schools have two sessions, morning and afternoon. Unfortunately, Rabecca goes in the afternoon so Heather didn't get to meet her. But, she jumped rope and played with many of the other girls around her age. She came home very excited because she had such a good time.

Then we had a little send-off for two of our guys and a gal who have been here about 3 weeks.
They have been great to get to know but now they need to get back to seminary or jobs. This does mean we will be down to our family and three guys eating and living here. Keith and Heather took them to the airport this morning.
