Fowl and Fur

We saw this hawk-type bird in one of our trees on Wed. but on Thurs. morning Charles found him injured. We think our dog may have taken a big chunk out of his wing. We just happen to know a "bird lady" so we called her. She is here studying migrations and populations of Zambian birds. She said it is a shikra or sometimes called a sparrow hawk. It is a beautiful gray color and had piercing bright red eyes. She will care for it and possibly give it to the local zoo. Interesting. Friends of ours have a mother cat with kittens so we went over to see them. Aren't they cute?
