Bumps and Babies
Today, I (Linda) was asked to drive eight of us to the House of Moses, a crisis home for babies. I had not driven in Zambia and have been quite content to let Keith drive as I learned my way around before mastering the other-side-of-the-road driving, manual transmission (on the left) and opposite side turn signals. I was up for it but wasn't expecting to have lots of company the first time I went out. Except for feeling where the vehicle was in the lane, it was no problem. Shifting came back to me and all went well. It was even fun. However Heather and the few in the far back of the Stran Cruiser said they were launched out of their seats when I went over that first speed bump!
Okay, on to babies. A couple of the AZ girls were to give a training to the staff on developmental play but House of Moses had them scheduled for a different day. Scheduling snaffoos are very
typical here. So we spent the morning playing with babies outside on a large carpet. Heather and Kelly came along and truly enjoyed these little ones. They commented that they want to go back tomorrow. Each of the babies have a difficult, individual story of how they came to live there. The great news is that this home is run by a Christian ministry and each baby is cared for in the name of Jesus. The other great news is that the director said they have an 85% reintegration rate. This means that 85% of the babies will end up with extended family, in foster care or are adopted.

Linda, I love seeing the girls with the babies! I know they will be great volunteers at HOM! There's a baby here who misses them!
