We have known some Rafiki missionaries so we decided to go see their Zambian facilities. They are about an hour outside of Lusaka, on a pretty decent road I might add. The photo shows their front gate of people helping children. They work with social services to receive orphaned children who will live in a family-type setting with a house mother as parent. One photo shows a home, which is grouped in a cluster of four. They have a common dining and activity center. All the children will be raised there, going to school getting a Christian education, vocational training as they get older and discipled all along the way. They will go to one of the local churches so they can stay in touch with other Zambians. The plan is to invest in the lives of these children and prepare them to benefit Zambia and the kingdom of God. I think any child placed there is extremely fortunate. Rafiki has similar facilities in many African countries. For more information you could go to: www.rafiki-foundation.org
On the way to Rafiki we saw several ox-carts - this has a pick-up truck bed on wheels for a trailer. And we passed a very old road grader but hey, it really works.
