You think you had a bad day

Yesterday, our teammates Chet and LeAnne Burns took me (Linda) and the four kids to a local pastor's house. His wife is a tailor who will be making some dresses from Zambian fabric for us. When we arrived the pastor said she wasn't home because she left earlier with a neighbor who was crying with a bad headache. Chet and the pastor drove the van to the clinic to check on how they were doing. We waited for an hour(watching BBC TV coverage of New Orleans). When they returned they looked a bit shook up and said the women waited for an hour and a half. While waiting the neighbor lady died in the waiting room of the clinic! These small community clinics do not have the capacity to care for the needs experienced by the Zambian people. Reportedly she died of menengitis. She was married, no children and only 23 years old. You could add her family to your prayers. Death happens everyday. Friends, don't let this concern you about us. We would most certainly go to a doctor before we got too bad and we can go to an American doctor as opposed to a small neighborhood clinic. I don't mean to be grim but Keith and I try to report life as it is.

I too read this story with sadness, but I thank you for presenting life how it really is for your family; knowing the sorrows and joys, the trials and hapiness allows me to be able to pray for you all in a more personal way. I pray that God will be using you there in Zambia, and that your witness for those of us that are still here in the states would cause us to praise God for all we have (especially the things that we take for grantid), and to continue to hold you and other missionaries up before Him.
